About this deal

The bottom of Mars 3 is designed to prevent dust and it can effectively prevent particles of up to 0.7 mm in size from entering the product. There’s also a built-in “intelligent sensor” that Anker boasts can perform keystone correction, autofocus, and screen fit in three seconds, so you can project on a range of flat surfaces, even if you don’t have a projector screen. Oh, and the Mars 3 will throw an image up to an impressive 200 inches, but Anker recommends 80 to 150 inches for the best image quality. As is increasingly common for native 1080p projectors, the Mars 3 negotiates a 4K (3,840-by-2,160-pixel) connection by default when possible, so it effectively behaves like a 4K projector with soft focus. In my tests, however, it had problems connecting with some sources that were set to 1080p. When connecting to a Verizon Fios box, for example, it usually connected at 1080p, but once negotiated a 720p connection instead. It also repeatedly failed to connect with the Bodnar meter I use for testing input lag at 1080p, reporting "no signal." One of the most important things to get right with a portable projector is giving it enough battery life to watch a standard-length movie on one charge. Anker claims a 2-hour battery life in standard mode and up to 5 hours in eco mode. During my testing, I found these claims to be accurate, with both modes exceeding their claimed battery life by a few minutes. The best experience for me was the AI brightness mode, which let me stream a 3-hour video podcast on YouTube, and I still had about 40% battery left. Beyond the physical setup, the Mars 3 offers automatic keystone adjustments and digital zoom. It also can automatically fit its image to match the size of whatever you're using for a screen. In my tests, all of these features worked as promised. The auto focus also worked nicely, but sometimes required rerunning it a second or third time to get sharp focus. Still, as with any projector, you might want to ignore these automatic adjustment features, since they lower image brightness and can introduce artifacts.

Enjoy Up to 5 Hours of Playtime Anywhere: Our exclusive RoamPower️ technology supports a 185Wh capacity, which lets you use Mars 3 as a power bank to charge smart devices, enjoy 5 hours of movies, and listen to your favorite tunes for 15 hours. My only gripe is the projector’s Android TV operating system. It is incredibly sluggish, to the point that it can be frustrating to use, which is really a shame considering all of the other wonderful things about the projector. In addition to being sluggish, you have to install the Netflix app through Anker’s weird Nebula app, and you get what appears to be the same experience you’d get on a phone, not on a TV. You have to use a virtual “mouse” to move around the app, which is annoying. I am sure that this has to do with Netflix restrictions, not Anker, and good on them for coming up with a solution, but it doesn’t make it any less annoying. Built for the Outdoors: With IPX3 water resistance, 0.5 m drop resistance, 0.7 mm dust resistance, a built-in stand, a lens cover, a camping light, a power indicator, integrated controls, and a carry handle, you can keep watching, no matter what the great outdoors throws at you.But not having much competition also means the Mars 3 is nearly unique, and that's pretty impressive by itself. Even if you're not interested in it as an outdoor projector, it's still a good choice for strictly indoor room-to-room use, where the battery power and ruggedness are nice but not essential extras.

The reason I didn't pull the trigger on any of those other projectors was primarily SOUND, most of them sporting a 10w speaker -- intended to be hooked up to a separate sound system. Mars 3 has passed IPX3 waterproof testing, which can effectively prevent rainwater from entering the machine and causing product damage during normal use. After rain or if the product is splashed by water, please ensure the product is placed vertically in a dry environment. It is not recommended to use this product in extreme weather conditions, in environments with unknown liquids, near hot springs, or near corrosive liquids.

Mars 3 has passed the 0.5 m standard cement floor drop test, which ensures that the device functions properly after accidental drops from a height of up to 0.5 m. The Mars 3 is an impressively polished product. It feels luxurious, has a stellar design, and the myriad LEDs make it look like a spaceship compared to most traditional projectors. The price has inflated with this move upmarket and it's double the cost of the Mars II Pro. Does it perform twice as well? Pretty much, yes. Does it perform as well as something like the BenQ HT2060 or Epson HC2350? Nope. But it has a battery instead. As far as content goes, Anker’s covered all the bases with Android TV 11 built-in, so you don’t need to connect it to a streaming device or mirror a device to it to access all your preferred streaming services. But you could, as the Mars 3 is also Chromecast compatible in case you want to cast a smartphone or laptop to it, too. It’s even Google Assistant capable via its included remote control so you can use voice commands. It’s a decent smart projector in its own right, too, with vivid colours and loud speakers. Contrast could be better and the Netflix workaround is a little fiddly. Design With claims that the Nebula Mars 3 is the ultimate outdoor projector, having spent a couple of weeks with it, they might have a point.

Android TV powers both projectors and have similar image adjustments and keystone features. The same 1080p resolution is found on both models and similar specs to power Android TV. This is about where the similarities end. In terms of brightness, the Nebula Mars 3 has 1,000 lumens which is just a bit more than the 900 lumens from the XGIMI Halo+. Sound Quality is another area where the Nebula Mars 3 exceeds, with its 40w speakers compared to the 10w speakers in the Halo+.Brightness:Brightness (light output) will vary depending on the conditions in which the projector is being used. Light output is measured in accordance with ANSI IT7.228-1997. The nominal value represents the average value of mass production and is tested under ideal laboratory conditions. Brightness diminishes over time as usage increases. While you’re better off lining the picture up as best you can (straight on avoids the need for any digital corrections), the auto routines at least mean that the Anker Nebula Mars 3 can compensate for any issues fast.
