This underground station is used by the Movement to get information out to the people. The "Voice of Freedom" is a woman named Ilana, who happens to be in love with Gad. Later in the night when the broadcast is finished, Ilana came to the house where John Dawson was being kept. The group of people at the house were sitting and talking about how they have escaped death and about Dawson's execution. But instead of the survivors scrabbling for survival, what if they were saved and kept in storage for centuries by an alien race, the Oankali? And what if one were awakened first, as Lilith Iyabo was, by these strange and frightening alien beings, covered in sensory tentacles? And what if one were told that humanity had been saved and would be repopulating the planet Earth, together with the Oankali? And with only one condition — but one that would transform human beings forever.

She was just kind of... there. Like all the other characters. None of the characters, not even the aliens, had a unique voice. So by the time the inter-species alien rape came in, I was already too jaded from the experience to have a reaction. (And speaking of which, what was Ms. Butler going for with the alien rape? If I actually cared about anything in this book, or if it was executed with more finesse, I would have just found it disturbing).
