About this deal

So we've already made the big step in improvements of Graphene 2.0 over 1.0, but 3.0 and then 4.0 is somewhere down the road, although that also goes along with the development of graphene itself in the industry," said Anton. I'm a huge fan of the Corsa Gs. (Both the earlier G+ and the G2.0.) Used one tubular Rubino 2.0 but flatted it very early on. (Seems I angered the tire god.) On the flip side, they are heavier and less aerodynamic. It's not a cheap experiment but if you're curious then it's worth trying a larger size. Not long ago we all used 19mm tyres pumped up to 15,000psi, and now you see pros using tyres as wide as 32mm in races, so 28mm tyres likely won't slow you down a great deal if that's your main concern. What tyres to Tour de France riders use?

I found myself pushing harder than I would with other road bike tyres when cornering, and you can lean your bike over without worry. Although the Graphene 2.0 compound is focused more on cut protection, durability and longevity, it still offers ample grip for training in all conditions, helped by that shallow rounded profile. Graphene 2.0 Compound: Vittoria’s unique Graphene compound is superior in rolling performance, grip, traction and longevity. This compound provides the performance benefits required for competitive, consistent racing output. The Original Graphene Compound raised the bar for performance evenly through all disciplines, whereas Graphene 2.0 pinpoints the performance requirements from each cycling discipline and enhances them for speed, grip, durability and puncture resistance. On the open road I’ve let rip along 1in7 descents with similar confidence. Though I’ve kept an eye out for rogue red deer, farm vehicles, derv and other potential hazards, I couldn’t coax the Rubino Pro off-line, let alone induce a shimmy, or slide. Similar story into the S bends. This is the fifth-generation Zaffiro Pro, so Vittoria has had plenty of time to refine its recipe over the years.

Whether you go tubeless or not is a key decision, but the majority of the best road bike tyres nowadays are tubeless compatible so you have the option to change your mind down the line. The Vittoria Rubino Pro G+ 2.0 is an updated version of the Rubino Pro G+ 1.0 that was released in 2016. Just like nearly all Vittoria G+ tires, the Rubino Pro now comes with the latest 2.0 version of Vittoria's Graphene compound. For the Rubino product line, Vittoria claims to have improved wet grip and mileage of the G+ 2.0 compound when compared to the G+ 1.0 compound. They do not claim reduced rolling resistance for the new Rubino compounds so it'll be interesting to see how it performs in our test.

Of course, you don’t want that low price to equate to any fragility that could leave you changing a tube by the side of the road. Puncture Force Sharp Needle: Pre-2021, this score was known as 'Puncture Resistance'. On some tires with weakly bonded casing wires, the sharp needle can split the casing wires resulting in a lower score. The updated Graphene 2.0 compound builds on the previous iteration, and is claimed to help prevent punctures, alongside improving durability and grip. Obviously, I can’t comment on Vittoria’s claims that they’ll stay sharp and puncture resistant, right until the end. However, I'm yet to flat in 700, often soggy miles. I’ve deliberately made a beeline for the dung, which would encourage flints, glass, thorns and similar sharps to become embedded and work their way into the casing. Pirelli Cinturato All Road tyre

They're not exactly light, either, our tyres weighing in at 376g and 387g, on account of the extra rubber presumably. If you want to maintain a decent tempo, the Zaffiro Pro is up to the task. Naturally, doing so will require more effort than a lighter, faster road bike tyre, but that’s a trade-off I’m happy to accept in return for much-increased reliability. As time has passed, my confidence has grown and the level of grip seems quite good, with traction in particular being very good. I have experienced very little slip, even taking on the steepest 25%+ climbs around, and it also manages to grip on mossy green, leaf-covered wet lanes.

It can be added to many applications, increasing various performance metrics, and that is why Vittoria says it has used it in these tyres. Apparently the graphene interacts with rubber by filling the space between the rubber molecules, giving better durability for higher mileage and protection against punctures. There should also be an improvement to wet grip too. Veloflex tubulars have always been a staple of the lightest, most purposeful climbing bikes. Now, though, you can get them in clincher format and they are tubeless-ready. The 350 threads per inch casing is extraordinarily supple, and these are also perhaps some of the best-looking tyres out there (if aesthetics are important for you), but with low weight and supple cotton comes a corresponding drop in durability. Don't be daft, don't slap these on for the winter. How to choose the best road bike tyres What type of bike tyres are best for the road? Manhole covers and similarly slippery ironworks require a bit more restraint, dare I say, common sense but no heart-in-mouth, soiled-my-shorts moments to date.

Now, however, the pros are primarily using clinchers setup tubeless, where a big glug of latex sealant replaces the inner tube and aims to self-seal any small holes in the tyre that would otherwise flat a tub or an inner tube.
