Some concrete paving is made in moulds and has chamfered edges creating a 'V' shaped joint between two paving slabs, wider at the top than at the bottom. This gap shape can be the most challenging to work with and we recommend you carefully follow the instructions below. In dry conditions and warm temperatures and humidity, EASYJoint should be firm enough to walk on within 24 hours and will cure hard within a few days. Sealing is particularly recommended for porous paving slabs and setts prior to laying and jointing with EASYJoint, to reduce the risk of staining or efflorescence. If sealer is applied after the patio has been laid, do not apply any type of sealer over the joint for at least a month after it has set hard. Only use a breathable sealer, otherwise EASY Joint may or may not remain permeable, and you may seal in any natural efflorescence passing through the stone. These natural salts will disperse over time. Can you apply EASYJoint in freezing conditions? The use of water to wash and fill the joints between the paving is a breakthrough in jointing methodology. It assists the paving grout to compact into the joints so there is no need to ‘strike’ or ‘tool’ the joints unless you want a smooth finish and also makes it very easy to apply.IMPORTANT The project’s ground conditions must be free draining. If the area stays naturally wet and rarely dries out, or if there is a high water table, then EASYJoint should not be used. Suitable for Light Vehicular Use On Dense Grade Projects. (For permeable driveway installs Refer to EASYJoint Pro) Less water is needed when applying EASYJoint to porcelain paving, as there is little risk of residue staining. You will find that a small amount of water, added to form it into a slurry, will make it easier to fill the joints properly. When applying to porcelain, to ensure an effective joint, the operator MUST strike the joint off, to compact the grout fully. Compaction forces out air and water which helps the joint harden faster. No, rain won’t matter. Sand is heavier than water and when it is in the joint it will stay there unless you have a torrent of water coming off of a roof that by sheer force is pounding it out of the joint. Paving, Pointing & Grouting We offer a range of pointing and grouting materials for jointing your patio slabs, outdoor paving or driveway including flowable slurry grouts such as UltraScape Flowpoint, brush-in grouts like EasyJoint and gun injected mortar for fine pointing. Typically, it will last 10 years, but this also depends on the installation process and the usual harsh environmental impact. With thin paving it is difficult to achieve 25mm depth. To achieve it, create a channel in the base material by running the tip of a trowel around the exposed edges of each paver to create 25mm depth for EASYJoint to sit in (see illustration above). CHAMFERED PAVING (Paving with ‘V’ Joints) Utilise the same method when working with porcelain paving tiles as with working with stone or concrete. The base on which the porcelain is laid must be able to drain. If the base is non-permeable then EASYJoint Pro or EASYGrout should be used.

Please Note: This information is for guidance only, the above table is to be used as an estimate of the amount of EASYJoint required, we always recommend purchasing an additional 1-2 tubs to ensure that you have enough – it will also keep due to the unlimited shelf life. Clean out the old jointing product completely to create the correct joint size (see information under the ‘Joints’ section). Do not use EASYJoint if the correct and fully clean joint size cannot be obtained. If heavy or prolonged rain is forecast, it is ideal to wait for drier conditions as heavy rain may disturb sand particles in the EASYJoint mix before it cures solid, giving an uneven texture. Prolonged rain will also extend the curing process. The compound is washed into the joint by using plenty of water before and during the application of EASY Joint. All you need is a hose, squeegee or broom and plenty of water.

Similarly, while EASYJoint remains wet, either via the application process or through rainfall, the curing process will be suspended. Prolonged periods of rain, or several intermittent showers will considerably extend the setting times. Again, this will not affect the final integrity of the product in any way provided water can drain easily away and so allow even curing throughout the joints (as previously explained) Why use EASYJoint? The wide widths are not a problem and can be 5″ or more; however, when you have really wide joints you also need to have a little more depth, so it doesn’t break up when it is stepped on.
