About this deal

Armed with actual knowledge of how foxes think and behave, I was able to formulate a successful strategy which led to me converting my garden from being completely overrun into a foxy Fort Knox. Using a motion sensor, the repellent detects movement from up 9m with a 110° area of coverage. This translates to roughly 85sqm, covering a good portion of most average size gardens, although larger gardens may need a second device. It lets other foxes know your garden is occupied and unavailable. The more prominent the scent-mark, the more likely other foxes will smell the message. That’s the reason foxes often poo on top or in the middle of things, like the centre of the lawn, on paving slabs or garden furniture, as well as around the perimeter. Deters a fox’s mark artificially by marking the area, so foxes think that another fox is around and because they don’t like conflict they avoid the treated areas. The ingredients are completely safe for plants, so you can apply it anywhere in the garden including lawns, flower beds, vegetables, trees, and much more. It is also pet-friendly, so no need to worry if you have any cats or dogs that may inspect the smell.

Although available in a range of sizes, the 5 litre chamber is perhaps the most practical, striking the right balance between being light enough to lift and containing enough liquid to make it worthwhile. These are installed on top of a fence or wall, making it more difficult for foxes and various other animals to climb up and over. Cheap and easy to install, these deterrents are a great option because they are so affordable, so it may be worth combining them with other deterrents for added effectiveness. Light Repellent The main downside for some people is that Scoot is higher maintenance than the FoxWatch, requiring you to be out in your garden every couple of days for around two weeks spraying the solution. While this seems a bit more hands on, it ensures the scent remains strong and consistent enough to be of concern to the fox. Your garden smells like a fox’s own, which reassures it that there is no other intruder. A comfort blanket is the fox’s equivalent to a very dirty blanket. Your garden will be happy if it smells good and doesn’t feel threatened.

Foxes are skittish animals, so by using devises that startle them you have a good chance of keeping your garden free from pests. One method for this is using a water repellent, which uses motion sensor to detect a fox, spraying them with a jet of water to scare them off. Using a pressure sprayer is a strangely therapeutic experience, as you calmly and evenly spray liquid around your garden by squeezing a trigger. Best fox repeller and deterrent overall Pestbye® Waterproof Cat Repellent Ultrasonic Repeller Cat Scarer with Ground Stake– absolute golden bonus it scares cats too The main reason Renardine was banned was because it was considered bad for the environment, so there is no direct, like-for-like legal alternative available. So if you want to keep foxes out of your area, you must make the environment less appealing to them. The animal should feel very insecure the moment it enters your garden and choose to go elsewhere. There are multiple settings available, including mode 1 that sends out ultrasonic waves to scare off animals, mode 2 that uses just the LED light, and mode 3 that combine both. Mode 3 is the best setting for foxes, as it produces a loud noise and bright light, both of which can scare off foxes. Creating doubt and suspicion at the entry point ensures the fox’s sensory alarms are triggered immediately, before it has even set foot in your garden. This style of fox repellant is very versatile, being quite easy to cut into the desired shape with scissors, or to be connected with other strips to cover larger surfaces. I personally hooked a few together to cover a good-sized area I’d just planted seeds in and it took very little preparation or messing around, something I was very happy about. Using a pooper scooper and putting it into some scented biodegradable dog poo bags is a good way of getting rid of it as you don’t have to use your hands and you can dispose of it without the risk of stinking the dustbin out. I’ll put a link to some useful tools for removing fox poo in the show notes to this episode at foxrepellentexpert.com/episode3 for you to consider

The common fox repellents include ultrasonic, water jets and repelling scents. Below we go over the different types and discover the pros and cons of each. Ultrasonic Despite its long and seemingly successful history, health and environmental concerns meant that Renardine was banned in the UK from 30th June 2005 under the Control of Pesticides Regulations 1986 and can no longer be used, sold, supplied or advertised. The first thing to keep in mind is that all modern fox deterrents available in the UK are safe to use with plants, pets and wildlife. They don’t do any actual harm even to foxes. The days of environmentally questionable fox deterrents like Renardine, Naphthalene Moth Balls or Creosote are long gone, having been outlawed in the UK years ago. The best scent-based fox deterrent is ‘Scoot Fox Repellent’ which comes in powder form. Simply dilute it in water and spray the solution around your garden or areas you’ve seen the fox.
